MARKET LIVE: Sensex gains 150 points; Nifty PSU Bank index up 5%

LIVE market updates: The Indian benchmark indices were holding on to their slim early gains in Tuesday’s noon deals, lifted mainly by public sector banks.

The S&P BSE Sensex hovered around 48,870 levels, up 150 points. Earlier, the index had risen to as high as 48,997. The broader Nifty50 index hovered below 14,650-mark. IndusInd Bank, Axis Bank, and ICICI Bank rose 2 per cent, each, and were the top Sensex gainers.

Among other individual stocks, L&T Technology Services fell over 8 per cent after announcing their quarterly results.

Majority of the Nifty sectoral indices traded in the green, led by Nifty PSU Bank index, up 5 per cent.

In the broader markets, the S&P BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices traded 1 per cent up, each.

Results today

A total of 20 companies, including Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, Alembic Pharmaceuticals, Apollo Pipes, DCM Shriram, IIFL Securities, Larsen & Toubro Infotech, and RBL Bank are set to release their quarterly earnings today.
